ACADEMIC
ASPECT OF UOL EXTERNAL PROGRAMME |
| The
curriculum and standards for the UOL external programme
are developed by ‘Lead Colleges’. A ‘Lead College’ is
a college of University of London that has the responsibility
to plan and develop the curriculum, study material, examination
papers and also check them. The lead college of degrees
in the fields of Economics, Management, Finance and the
Social Sciences is London School of Economics and Political
Sciences. It is the responsibility of LSE to ensure that
students sitting exams externally are set the same standards
as internal students.

ADMINISTRATIVE
ASPECT OF

relating to the study material are handled by the University
of London. The administration department of JUC assists
students in the prompt completion of various forms throughout
the degree. |

Mode
Of study at JUC |
| At
JUC we believe in reinforcing the ideas that have been
taught and to ensure that our academic team is dedicated
to a rigorous regime that enables the students a better
understanding of the tools and their usage. Following
are some of the ways to ensure that claim.
|
|
Lectures
|
| Lectures
will be conducted in lecture halls by specialized faculty
and will be of hour long duration. Each compulsory module
will receive 3 hours of lectures per week and optional
units 2 hours. Lecture times for 1st year degree students
vary and are more extensive owing to the unique nature
and atmosphere of university education. |
|
Tutorials
|
| Tutorials
at JUC have two main functions: |
| 1.
Reinforcing lecture;
2. Past paper exam solving.
|
| A
typical group of no more than 10 students will meet once
a week, under the supervision of a tutor, with a list
of issues for discussion (handed out at the lecture).
Contribution and performance in these sessions will be
graded and counted towards evaluation at the end of the
term. |
|
Seminars
|
| JUC
realizes that although the students are required to only
sit an external exam at the end of the academic year,
it is the duty of a university to groom and develop the
interpersonal skills of a student. To that end there will
be seminar presentations by the students based on material
handed out for tutorial discussions. |
|
Open
door policy |
| At
JUC we encourage students to avail the time spent at JUC
campus. Therefore JUC is committed to an in-house
mathematics teacher to assist in any queries that might
arise outside of class. |
|
Student
counseling |
| A
fulltime student councilor is available on campus to assist
with administrative and academic and personal issues. |
|
Placement
opportunities at JUC |
| JUC
believes in retaining its best minds on campus. Therefore
we offer teaching assistant ships and tutorial opportunities
to exceptional and bright second and third year students
of the UOL programme. |
|
Recommended
reading |
|
JUC
is committed to ensuring that the students have up to
date and relevant reading material available to them.
To ensure this the university has a policy of supplying
the compulsory texts to the students at market rate itself
for convenience and expediency. |
| Apart
from that the library’s reference section is available
to all students even beyond college hours. Lecturers and
tutors will also distribute relevant and alternative reading
materials during the course of the degree. Students are
encouraged to assist in developing the reading database.
|
|
Exam
and evaluation |
| There
are two scheduled internal examinations at JUC for UOL
external students: |
| 1.
2nd week December.
2. 2nd week March. |
| Apart
from the formal examination evaluation, the following
will be observed as academic policy at JUC: |
| 1.
fortnightly graded assignment based on past paper exam
questions;
2. fortnightly student review meeting between the Academic
director and the Lecturer;
3. fortnightly course review meeting between the Academic
director and the Lecturer;
4. fortnightly evaluation of seminar and tutorial involvement
between the Academic
director and the tutor;
5. Attendance review. |
