S. M. Sohail Trust

S. M. Sohail Trust is named after a legal luminary of Karachi, who was an active participant in the freedom movement as President of provincial Muslim League and also President of Bihar Relief Fund.  After 1947, he became Secretary of the Pakistan Bar Council, founding Managing Director of Karachi Co-operative Housing Union and Chairman Public Accounts Committee of West Pakistan Assembly.  He was an ardent advocate of education and founded Sharfabad English School.

In 1997, the Trust established the School of Nursing at Medicare Hospital, which has consistently shown good results in board examinations.  In 1998, the Trust established Jinnah Medical and Dental College, admitting its first batch of MBBS students.   In 1999, the Dental Section was established and admitted its first batch of BDS students. In 2003, the Department of Pharmacy was established which offers Doctor of Pharmacy programme

The Trust has built a teaching hospital in the Korangi Industrial Area for low-income residents.  This not-for-profit hospital is ideal for training of undergraduates and post-graduates.

History

S.M. Sohail Trust owns and operates Jinnah Medical and Dental College, Jinnah College of Pharmacy, Medicare School of Nursing and Jinnah Medical College Hospital, which is a 300-bed teaching hospital. S.M Sohail Trust  now has 4 teaching units with more than 700 students.  

JMDC admitted its first batch of MBBS students in 1998 and its first batch of BDS students in 1999.  Our first batch of doctors and dentists graduated in June 2003.  The College is affiliated with the University of Karachi and recognized by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council.  Graduates from JMDC are eligible to sit for foreign qualifying examinations such as USMLE (ECFMG).

To date, JMDC students have earned a total of 186 distinctions in MBBS subjects and 108 distinctions in BDS subjects on the Professional Examinations conducted by the University of Karachi.  Fourteen students have also taken positions in the University of Karachi Professional Examinations!
