Academic Policies For A' Level Programme

JUC is committed to providing a congenial and conducive environment that is essential for the overall growth and development of its students. The School aims to promote learning that, in addition to knowledge and skills will provide graduates with a broader vision. We earnestly hope that the students and their parents support the school in maintaining its desired standards. It is expected that students will adhere to the policies and abide by the rules and regulations of the School.

Students are to assume personal responsibility for the honesty and integrity of all activities, including respect for policies, programs, faculty and staff. Students are expected to observe generally accepted standards of conduct. JUC reserves the rights to take action against students indulging in activities that are injurious to the interest of the School, faculty or others.

Any evidence of academic dishonesty such as copying the work of another or offering unauthorized assistance to another student may lead to expulsion from JUC.

A counselor coordinated through the Student Affairs Office will counsel any student who fails to make satisfactory progress. If progress is still not satisfactory after counseling, the parents will be contacted and a parent –councilor meeting scheduled. The Disciplinary Committee will make decisions regarding any actions to be taken for unsatisfactory performance or behavior of any student. After repeated counseling and continued unsatisfactory performance by the students, the student will be asked to withdraw. The student may request the Appeals Committee (Principal, Director, Head Boy, Head Girl and Chairman of the Board of Governors) to review any decision.

Any student requiring advice on academic or personal matters should seek the help  of the Academic Counselor, Student Affairs. Students will be assigned a tutor/ advisor who will monitor their academic progress. Students are required to meet with their faculty advisor at least once a week, but may meet more often as necessary. Matters discussed between students and counselors are considered confidential.

Attendance

Attendance in each subject is compulsory and no student shall be eligible to appear in midterm exams and mock exams unless they have attended 80% of the lectures and practical for that course. Attendance is counted from the first day of the semester and not from the date of admission. Students called for participation in school activities and sports will be given exemption in attendance for the actual period. These cases are to be decided individually.

Student Affairs Department

This department coordinates the students’ daily schedules and deals with all administrative matters pertaining to students including admissions, enrollment, attendance, examination records, and discipline. Counseling services are available  as required by the students for both academic and personal matters. This office  provides a liaison between the students, teachers, parents and faculty/administration.

Academic Counseling

All students will be assigned an academic councilor. The councilor will be responsible for over seeing the monthly performance of the each student (attendance, grades etc) and will also help students with their admissions to universities at home and abroad. University applications will be dealt with towards the end of the first year. Students and their parents will be reminded of that. One on one session will be held with the student and if necessary the parents as well to enlighten the students of university requirements. The councilor will entertain with each student the option to fill 10 applications to American Universities, 6 Canadian universities and as many as UCAS allows for UK universities. There are no limits to applying to Pakistani universities.

Discipline, Withdrawals and Expulsions

All students are required to follow the rules and regulations of the School. The Disciplinary Committee will deal with any infraction of the rules. Dishonesty, cheating, destruction of property, physical violence, violation of rights of person or property of others, unexplained absences may all be reasons for dismissal from the School. In such case, tuition fee will not be refunded.

Appeals

All disputed decisions will be referred to the Appeals Committee, whose decision will  be final.

Dress Code

Students must wear the appropriate uniforms for boys and girls. White coats are to be worn at all times for laboratory work or else they will not be allowed in the labs.
